The most wealthy families in America asked for their architects to build them homes in the style including the Astors, Vanderbilts and Morgans. The style became increasingly popular in the new suburban environment of the American Cities and the affluent streetcar suburbs of the early 20th century. Newly wealthy cities like Chicago, Minneapolis and St. Louis became hotbeds of the beaux arts style with examples springing up all over the best neighborhoods in the city along with other eclectic styles of architecture.
